Notion Template Not Duplicating?

Short answer

Usually you’re not logged in, you’re in another Notion account, or the link opened inside an app like Instagram. Open it in Safari or Chrome, logged in to the right account, and click Duplicate.

Check these first

There’s no Duplicate button

You’re on a phone or tablet

There, the button is inside the menu (three lines) at the top right. Here’s how to duplicate a template on iPhone and iPad.

The link isn’t the public page

If you see “Continue to external site” or only a login screen, you were sent a link to the creator’s own workspace, not the published page. Ask the seller for the public link.

The creator turned duplicating off

Every published Notion page has a Duplicate as template switch. When it’s off, nobody gets the button. Ask the seller to turn it on.

It’s a paid template on the Notion Marketplace

A template sold through Notion’s own checkout sends its public page to the checkout instead. Buy it there and Notion adds it to your workspace. Already bought it? Open Marketplace in your sidebar and select Added.

It keeps asking you to log in

The link opened inside an app

Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest and many email apps open links in their own browser, which doesn’t know you’re logged in. Tap the ••• menu and choose Open in Safari or Open in Chrome, or copy the link into your browser.

You’re in another Notion account

Check the account at the top of the sidebar. If it’s the wrong one, log out and log back in with the email you want the template in.

It says Duplication failed, or nothing happens

Rate limit reached

Notion lets you copy up to 50,000 blocks an hour. If you see “Rate limit reached, please try again later”, wait an hour and try again.

A shared free workspace is full

A free workspace with two or more members can hold 1,000 blocks in total, and one template can go over that. Duplicate it into a workspace where you’re the only member, which has no block limit. Or remove the other members and invite them back as guests.

You can’t add pages to that workspace

As a guest in someone else’s workspace, you can’t create pages there. Pick your own workspace when Notion asks where the copy should go.

The browser is in the way

Log out of Notion and back in, try another browser or a private window, and turn off any VPN or blocker for notion.com.

Notion is having a problem

Check Notion’s status page. If something is down, try again once it’s back.

The copy looks empty or wrong

Questions

Why is there no Duplicate button on a Notion template?

On a phone it’s inside the menu at the top right. On a computer, a missing button usually means the link isn’t the public page, the creator turned duplicating off, or it’s a paid Marketplace template that opens checkout instead.

What does Duplication failed mean in Notion?

Notion couldn’t make the copy. Common reasons are a shared free workspace that has run out of blocks, copying more than 50,000 blocks in an hour, or a workspace where you can’t add pages.

Why does my duplicated template look empty?

Big templates can take a little while to fill in. Reload after a minute, and look under Private in the workspace you picked.
